Question: What is the process we should be telling families to use to let you know they need assistance?
Response: If a family is reaching out about the internet, they should be communicating with their schools Social Worker/Guidance Counselor to ensure the school is aware that they need internet access. Below are the steps:
1. The family completes the 2020 - 2021 Free and Reduced Form
2. Next, they need to contact the school Social Worker with a copy of the FNS letter they received for the 2020-2021 School Year. If the school does not have a social worker, they should contact your child's guidance counselor.
3. The Social Worker will gather the required information and contact the IT department.
4 Once approved, the Social Worker will reach out to the family with any available resources *
* We will do our best to provide resources but cannot guarantee what options are available.
Question: How long should they expect before they get that assistance?
Response: Once the family qualifies for free internet, the district can issue them a Comcast Voucher within a day or two. The family would then need to fill out the Comcast Internet Essentials application and provide the voucher from the district to pay for their internet for the school year. Note: This is only for families that cannot afford to pay for the internet.
