From government-sanctioned housing discrimination, to an unjust criminal justice system, to unequal education, systemic racism has spanned generations and caused significant economic disparities for Black and Brown people. These disparities persist today: people of color are often paid less than their white counterparts for the same work, they own less property than white people, and the poverty rate for Black people is nearly three times that of white individuals. Manchester NAACP is actively working to correct these economic injustices by helping people of color in Manchester—individuals and business owners—grow wealth.
- Community Development and Economic Empowerment: Black and Brown people who own businesses in Manchester face barriers that white business owners often do not. As a result, minority-owned businesses often need additional and unique strategies to succeed. Working in concert with the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, we're providing essential advice and resources for minority-owned business owners to succeed, in turn helping them contribute to the vitality and health of our community.
- Financial/Career Literacy Training: We're partnering with Fidelity and the YWCA to provide important training on financial and career literacy to young people of color and their families.
- Wealth Accumulation Advice: We're providing financial advice and guidance to people of color, both individuals and entrepreneurs, who are not currently aware of resources, or who are not given the best advice by financial advisors who lack knowledge about the challenges experienced by people of color. Our wealth accumulation advice is provided primarily by financial experts of color, in partnership with the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, the Small Business Development Center, Fidelity, and Citizens Bank.
